am: 30 minutes total. give or take 4 miles. it was pretty dope, snowy and anything.

NO SCHOOL! cuz of the snow partied hardcore at Jake's house. 

pm: 28 minutes which is exactly 4 miles. good run but the mcdonalds we ate during lunch didnt sit well the whole run. we did 2 events of the decathlon. ran the 400 and got like a 57.4, alright but i threw 24'9" in the Shot Put! im an animal.

Am: late like usually..

Pm: 1x600 @800 goal pace with as many 300s @ current PR pace as we could do with 1 minute recovery.

The 600 was nice nick opened pretty quick which allowed me to get in a comfortable position first 4 was 57 or 58. Surge and another surge walla I hit maybe high 1:27 or low 1:28. Nice run. Had 15 minute recovery to get me mentally prepared for the next part. The 300s where very difficult (PR was 2:03.5) so I calculated about 46 for my 300s. Very tough workout with just 1 minute recovery and some. Ran 43,45,45,49(heat got to me). 5 minute recovery then busted a 45,42. Coach saw us going ham and said we were good. Twas a hot day.

I am actually quite pleased with the workout so I think I'm going to run a big PR and go sub 2:00 in the 800. I'm also going to shoot for a sub 52.25 in the 400.

am: workout in the morning it was 6x400 at "goal" pace. Yeah I threw goal pace out the window and went for strong finish with being tired and the insane wind. 03,05,07,07,09,03. Kinda garbage kinda beast.

Pm: easy run to sunrise tires. nice and cheese. Kids track meet where I supported the shot put. And throw the baby shot like 45ft kinda garbage kinda beast.

Am:ran about a mile in a half before I came to my senses that I shouldn't be running cuz my calf was in pain. Pretty crummy morning.

Pm: had the 400. I realized that I need to get out faster and I'll do good. My legs weren't burning like they should. I'm guessing that I could run a 50.8 if I really went balls to the walls. I'm just waiting for the prefect time. I was making ground on nick but I ran out of real estate. Good job bro. Call me King Naught.

Am: ran some in the morning then some more around and stuff.

Race came around and I believe I prepared perfectly. Going in my goal was State + PR. I was seeded 7th but I knew I was top 5 material lol. I opened up in a 28 after some elbows were thrown and stuff. Chilled behind kale, proffit, and lambert. My plan was to serge at 400,500,and 650. At 400 I was @ 58, but I couldn't get around those three without swinging way wide to lane 2 maybe three on a turn. Any tips on this? After that I made a small surge at 500 which kept me with proffit and kale but they surged more and I lost contact after that I knew it was over but I didn't want to quit so I pushed good enough to get my a PR of 2:02. My mistake was not the surges but losing contact with proffit and kale. Finished 4th. Sadly didn't get state which means I still haven't qualified for any Individual events. My goal for the 400s this weekend is low 51s. That will build up my confidence. # roadtostate.

Am: I was only 3 minutes are slower than usual.

Pm: long day in apush which sucked. Ate del race which wasn't bad just the nachos sucked. Took some advil for the. Migraine I was having and after the warmup I felt fine. Going into the workoutwhich was 3x1000. I worked with nick and we opened in 1:10, 1:14 and finished with a 36 total time of 3:00. First time running that close. And I felt good. My thoughts were maybe I could run 2 sub 3:00. Next I opened in 1:12 but my stomach started and throat began to feel weird so I slowed it down and we got in around 1:12 put on a surge and my next lap was a 1:16. I could feel the vomit foorming in. You mouth ready to explode and I stopped at 900 probably around 2:34ish (3:02 pace). I went a nearby dumpster and let it all out like a sinner at church. Pretty wild stuff. After that I had no energy left and worked on attempting to run at minimum 400 at pace. I managed a 500 in about 1:30. I lost my for. I ran a crappy 300 my time was like 43ish. I was tired. More apush too. This day all in all was a bummer. I've learned some valuable lessons. Which will help me get my sub 2:00 and sub 52.

Am: was a bit more late than usual.

Pm: tough workout 10x200s at about 26-28. With reducing recover. The first 4 were all right all but the first were on pace. The next set was tough managed some sub 30. My next three were said low 28s I think and I am satisfied. The middle of my foot hurts and Im iceng it rn. Tough workouts but I'm happy.

Am: completed about 70% my foot which I believe has tendinitis, and shin were hurting pretty bad. So I can only do so much.

Pm: legs were hurting but it felt fine. No longer going after the school record in the medley that's cool. Maybe I'll do the open 400 or 800. Because of how my legs are feeling I'm going for sub 51.64 or sub 2:00.51. Whichever one I'll run I'll run fast.

Am: lower time and I felt good.

Pm: Kosmin Time. I did the 800 Kosmin, my goal was to run effin fast. So i got out fast. Hit the 400 mark at about mid 54 and i felt tired. So i chilled for 3. Minutes and i wa ready for a hard one next so i got out not fast but solid pace. i believe i came around 800 total meters @ 1:52 and finished hard. Got about 842 meters. A new school record. Lol. My kosmin says i can run a 1:57. Just need the ba... Guts to do it. Great confidence booster. After we 300,200,100 aswell i dropped out of the 300 cause i was still mad tired. But my 200 was beast it was like a 24.2 and my one was a 12.4. Good day.

Am- easy run

Pm- good workout 60 seconds x 4 all out i believe. Dope workout, i forgot to where a calf sleeve and i belive i have tendonitis but whatevs. Only did 2. Good sess. To give some prespective i ran my 1st one i hit 400 meters about 58 seconds. Then we decided to do a downhill and i beleive i ran the next one in 53. But the change from the track to the sidewalk really irrated my foot. So i called it done and finished with some minutes with the freshman.

Am: ran in the morning with the guys. Grabbed some chikfila and it was good.

Pm: i got probably the best warm up i ever had. It was like 3.5 miles and nice and relaxed. I ate lots of candy idk why i just did. I lined up but i didnt know where to go. So i just lined up next to a couple of alta guys. The race got off and i quickly realized this race was going to be way different. Anyways i paced ny self to a :28-29 first 200. I was in like 7th but got around a guy and moved into 6th. After passed another guy. And hit the 400 at 58-59. A couple of surges and the grouo stayed a couple of meters ahead maybe 5. I hit 600 at 1:30. And just went for it. I caught a guy and i finished 4th. I thought i State Q. But after about 6 Hours of waiting to get my medal (shirt). I found out i ran .06 too slow!!!! Very heartbreaking.

I learned alot on this race and my goal is to implement these tactics into my next race. My goal is to not lose contact with the pack. Also go sub 2:00 at Region.

am: Chill run, i felt good.

Pm: Mile Warm and had an "all out" 600. Felt Far From all out. I felt tired but i chose to not lead and got out in a 60 then closed in a 30. So it is what it is, my groin started hurting so i only could do so much of the pyramid after. But overall good day excited for Region.

My Open 400 was really bad felt tired and got out of the block bad, it was like a 54.

My goal was state qualify nothing else. 

Gun goes off and i get going but my start was slow and i open in 30. Dead last aswell. Leaders had already made a 10-15 meter gap on me. I made a surge on the 300 hundred mark to get around the pack but it really wasnt much of a surge, The video showed that I made most of my move on the back Stretch. I hit the lap in 60-61, no fast but not slow. I made the correct surges and placed myself in position, on the backstretch some Eric Lambert tried to make a move to get around the pack but he got tripped up by the Hurricane Guys on his heels. This allowed me to surge and i was in top 7 maybe. 200 left i shouldve gone all out sprint but i didnt. I just slowly sped up and got into a kick with Thatcher and Skyler. I beat Skyler which allowed me to go to state. How Swag.

 

The 4x400 was next and i was still pooped i just went with all i had and it was good enough for 4th pace and a new realy PR of 51.8. pretty cool stuff.

Practice Hand offs then did 3x400 at goal 800 pace. The wind really threw me off but i didnt let it scare me. I adjusted my workout to State Qualifying pace. since my goal is a 1:57. and State qualifying is a 2:00.51 i Was shooting for nothing but 60s. The wind was weird you felt it on both turns but especially on the homestretch. I ran 60.low, 60.High, and 61.High. Pretty hard. BUt overall good day.

Got to the park at 6:58 but nature called and had to get a quick bano break. Did drills and warm ups and stuff. 

Race went alright after about a mile or so on the far south east side of the course. I made a surge hoping to get 5 guys under 10:50 that was my main goal that I visualized for like 3 days lol. But nobody went with me and it made me look like an a hole. The bright side to that was the pack picked it up. But when I saw nobody go with me and coach told me what's up I stopped turned around got back with the pack. I was pretty upset with myself the most. So I basically went from race-ish mode to hard finish mode. I no longer wanted to race. So I basically hard finished my way touch stuff going through my brain. No more surging from me anymore. The team did great!! Proud of them.

Wow eye opener for me. 

Race: team started out not so well way back and yeah most of the mile was weaving around people, next i lead the next 1k which was part of our plan. except it was suppose to be a mile. idk. i didnt run well. i havent ran "fast" in 3 years. i dislike this feeling. There's only so much Coach and the team can do for me. I just lack the confidence that i need and the mental ability to be and go fast. idk I'm really hard on myself. its just hard i need more support. But most importantly i need to believe in myself. I've invested too much to not be as fast as i should be. I've been putting in some thoughts and i need to fix these areas.

1. Eat Healthier. I am going to limit myself on fast food and unhealthy treats and substitute them for healthier options.

2. Mentaly becoming stronger and a better person, idk how but i have the internet.

3. Accept defeat and move on, I've never won a race, still want to.

4. be a better teammate, I want others to improve aswell.

theres probably more idk i cant think right now. I just want to run fast.

I assume when you mean "you haven't run fast in 3 years," you mean that you haven't had a fast xc race in 3 years. Regardless of that, you just came off a pretty solid track season and I definitely would say you had some pretty fast races during track. I know that doesn't exactly transfer to xc but that mentality that you had in those races can transfer if you let it.

Think back to some of your best races, xc or track, and think about what you did mentally (to prepare or just race) that made them good. Then try out some of that stuff to see if it helps. Idk.

I think for you it will have to be a lot of trial and error until you figure it out. It will prolly take awhile to figure out. I would know, I never really got it down very well. I definitely figured it out a little bit Senior year to have a decent season.

For me, I would always psyched myself out before races if I did too much mental preparation, so I just stopped really doing any mental preparation. I always seemed to run better when I thought as little bit about the race as possible and just went out and ran.

Confidence wise, in my worst races, I usually would always have it in my head that I wasn't as fast as someone and I wouldn't even try to mix it up with them. My best races came when I didn't really think about anyone else and just focused on running the best that I could or believing that I was just as good or better than those I was racing. One Example was Region Track this past year when I got bumped down to JV. My confidence was totally different going into Region because I knew I could beat all the other guys out there. And as a result I had 3 of my best races of my whole high school career.

Idk if that will help. Like you were saying it really comes down to you. I just want you to know that I believe in you Paul and so does your team. So if you're having a tough time believing in yourself, remember the team is right there with you, doing all the believing for you.

Workout today. First one all season. We had 4x800 Meter hills at the legendary Old Man Hills. coach said 75% but i have no idea what the heck that was so i ran hard but not too hard. I lead them all and never faultered for a second. if i can do this in a workout i sure as hell can do it in a race. Mentally tough.

So i talked to coach today, and i won't be running at state. I've ran my Freshman, sophmore, and junior year. But Sadly not my senior year, Wow. I don't know what to think i thought my solo performance at region was enough but i thought wrong. It goes to show how much support you truly need from your parents to be successful. Not for one second am I bashing on my parents because they work too hard to make ends meet and give me food on the table, and a roof on my head. I can only dream of that support. I dont know how i am going to break it to my parents, especially my mom because she had to do ask for the day off, and now she has to go back to work. My head hurts, and my tears just make it worse. Ive tried, not my best but ive tried. My negative mentality go the best of my for 3 years. I just feel that i let my parents down, i mean i can still see their faces when we spent $150 on shoes. its been hard. runnings been exhausting physically, mentally, financialy, and spiritually.

But through all these troubles, I've finally discovered the good. I have hopefully made life long friends in the Freshman 5 and houseboaters, as well as mentors in coach holt and coach roberts. I've found the fun in the most challenging sport. From the looks at the colleges that i've been talking to, I have hopefully found a way to pay for college, But most importantly I've grown as a human, I've become a better citizen to help others now and the future. I've made new goals for the upcoming track season and for College.

100 - practiced getting out, i need to get out faster, nick gapped us by like 3 seconds granted he was being a needle and started without us.

1000- these thousands were pretty easy (3:20) i just kept running

1000- kept it in the pack, just chilled (3:19) never pushed.

400- i decided to start mid pack and slowly work my way up it was funny cuz the last 100 i swung super wide like to lane 4 and i was loling in my head. (64)

1000- decided to lead with alex and ran a solid (3:15). it didnt feel harder than all the other ones. it felt more consistant.

100- i always beast on 100/200s i ran like 13s and 25s on these workout sprints. i just wreck noobs. once again beasted.

overall happy with the workout hopefully i run fast enough to run the thousands in the lower teens. to make it harder, and maybe run the 400s in sub 60s idk. we'll see i like this workout.

Halloween went i was  a sexy lumberjack. Pretty steamy if you ask me. on the way back we usually have a race that is never spoken of. Pretty funny. i ended up taking 4th losing to Huns, Nuns, and Guns, Some weenie batman guy, and a caveman. soo close to that metal.

1 Mile Fun Run in support of Jason's Current Issues project which is to provide little kits of sanitary stuff for kids in our county that cant afford them. I coached nick the entire way, it is very impressive even when his body says no his mind says yes and he perserveres his way to become a true hero.

workout tempo plus 10x400 repeats @ the Region North Course.

the tempo was pretty chill just there to get the legs moving and the blood pumping. The first set of 5 400s were at a little easier pace i kept them with Lil D and anyone else who wanted to run with us. After our recovery we started the next set and we crushed them. times were something like this 70, 73,72,73,70 on some of these there were long small inclines or vice versa. The next set was like this 70, 69, 68,65,63. Pretty good stuff focused well which is the most important part. FOCUS. ready for monday.

3 mile warm up, 

race got down and it was a solid  i dont know my mile split nor my two mile split but the 2nd mile was extremely slow i put it a solid surge after the first mile but the 30 mph winds were too much for my body to handle, lowkey i wouldve kept that pace probably a little longer with no wind since i was riding on the determination of catching nick and dallen which i definately was, but i wasnt meant to be. mitch and andrew caught me and i rode that rollercoaster for a solid mile and with 500 too go i made a legit surge against the wind to catch them an was basically on andrews back and the i ufa'ed my foot passing a girl on our team, it hurt bad then my form was no where to be seen and i lost probably about 15 seconds in those last 300 meters, it was pretty crappy. A good thing i can take away is i know i can make that surge after a mile but and hold it which is really good. i held on pretty good with my teamates, but my misfortunate ankle caused me a season best. Live and learn.

8 minutes running lol the outside of my foot left  hurt :(

45 foot pain was mild, so i ran the whole time, barely even hurt, 98.5% chance its not a stress fracture probably a ankle sprain and my joints are feeling it. internet should help.

100 was cheese

1000: wayyyyyyy slow, my first lap was freakin slow. like a 1:28 so i slowly dropped it down to a still not fast at all 3:22.

1000:  pretty chill got out just a bit quicker, like a 3:19.

400: pretty average 65...

1000: dropped it down. 3:16.

1000: i felt good 3:13.

400: good run 62.

100: 13-14. i felt good.

i think im leaving too much for that quick of a finish. maybe some low 3:10 would make me feel it a little more. i just gotta get moving a little more. it was weird doing the entire run solo, but fun. good stuff.

race warmed up and rolling, i was feeling like poo all day even my naps during class didnt help. i was just looking to run top7. get out and im pretty back thats one problem. i try to surge my way to the pack caught mitch and andrew after the mile and i just hesitated i wanted to make a huge surge to see where i could take me but i didnt and thats when i started falling back slowly but surely i did got passed made a surge and yeah top 7 pretty average... time wasnt what i wanted but #yolo

 i was extremely tired cuz we stopped at my uncle eddys house and left at midnight arrived to irvine around 1-2 am. woke up at 8 to eat breakfast and drove down with my cousins bf to san marcos went to my trip  to CST San Marcos talked to coach Steve Scott,yes the legendary miler.  hes a really funny guy, we talked about a lot of stuff, its a good school, looks like fun. 

did my workout on their track after. i could tell it was gonna be a bad, i took the best i could, my feet felt like i was running on mud. the head wind wasnt too bad. the tempo was slow my legs just wouldnt go. first one was 2:36, 2:33, 2:31. cool down and i realized how much a just swat. took the best out of it. fun times

no run. i wasnt in the safest parts of East LA, so i thought it would be better to not run, on the side note found out my uncle Filipe runs for Cathedral High, so thats cool and he has a dope MT Sac invite shirt. it was a fun day.

We begin with a good me warming up but i could barely get warmed form the Tornado sized winds. it took a while but i did.

got out way in the back like 15th used some guys for the huge front wind then caught up with the 2nd pack for a little these guys slowed down the straight away before the start of the 2nd lap, swung wide and got around them chilled behing the 1st pack ( chase) with andrew, dallen, presto, skyler. nick was a ways away now. stayed behing again on the massive headwind, then swing wide one more time with presto, this time i felt like a surging so i surged and presto and skyler went with me but i was a few feet ahead, i was catching nick now but only slightly, finally the last lap came and i was going. presto caught me with 200 to go then skyler came up with like 125 to once we hit the 100 left mark we sprinted har, but 800 meter runners will almost always outkick 3200 runners in the 1600. good stuff fun race

Nothing says sick, like a good ole whooping cough. Been sick for about a week and it hasnt been fun. but i stomached up to do the workout the uphills were good and the downhill was awesome but after the 1st downhill i felt sick to my stomach and it was a horrible feeling.

easy cheesy. i felt like crap my cough is horrible. but i lasted the strides felt good it was fun. im excited for footlocker but even more excited for our break but even even more excited for winter training but even even even more excited for TRACK!
